In opposition the Labour party strongly supported mandating swift bricks in new homes - that support included backing the swift brick amendment when it was tabled on Conservative government legislation in 2023.
Last November - in a move which shocked and left conservationists aghast - the Labour government used a three-line whip to vote down a House of Lords amendment to make the bricks mandatory for new buildings. Help us send a message to Keir Starmer’s government that its time to SAVE OUR SWIFTS Here’s how you can help - the UK government is currently inviting the public to submit views on a new draft of the National Planning Policy Framework which includes proposed measures to make swift bricks a standard feature in new developments. You can email planning policy consultation at [email protected] and let them know that swift bricks must be mandated through building legislation not toothless guidance that won’t be followed to the scale needed.
