How a coffee between friends provided the eureka moment for the Campaign for Social Justice
The idea for the Campaign for Social Justice came about over a coffee with my great friend, Julian Richer, one sunny afternoon in June 2023.
For several years we had shared the same frustration that many wonderful campaigns for social justice had failed to make the impact they deserved, because, left disenfranchised by mainstream UK media, they had been denied the voice they cried out for. We spoke about how amazing it would be if we could find a way to help them put that right and it was then that we came up with the idea of creating a platform across a variety of social media channels to give campaigns for social justice a voice, free of charge. This would enable them to showcase their work and reach as many people as possible. Social injustice is not confined to a single issue - it affects every aspect of our lives, from poverty to housing to human rights – and only by working together can we ever hope to eradicate it. We wanted a platform on which people could actively engage and take part in supporting those campaigns, even if only by sharing content, and enable those causes to reach the widest possible audience and make the maximum impact. Julian has founded and supported many charities and campaigns involved with human rights, animal welfare, social housing deprivation and generally fighting injustice, while I have been campaigning against social injustice on a number of issues for many years. I already had a large following across a variety of social media channels, and we realized we could use them to create the Campaign for Social Justice. We could give something back by giving a voice to others - and so now here we are! |
